What Is Jessica’s Law in Oregon?

Originating in Florida and adopted by Oregon in 2006, Jessica’s Law imposes enhanced penalties on certain sex crimes, particularly those involving minors. It

Unlike other criminal statutes that allow for greater judicial discretion, Jessica’s Law significantly limits sentencing flexibility. A conviction can result in mandatory minimum sentences of 25 years, severely restricted housing and employment opportunities, and irreparable reputational damage. Additionally, those convicted of crimes under this law’s reach must wear a GPS-tracked ankle monitor for up to five years.

Crimes that May Fall Under Jessica’s Law

Jessica’s Law in Oregon applies to a range of sex-related offenses, including:

Sexual abuse involving a minor
Unlawful sexual penetration
Rape involving a child
Online luring or solicitation of a minor
Possession or distribution of child pornography
